Investigation of Volumetric Properties of Some Glycol Ethers Using a Simple Equation of State

Abstract: In this work, a simple equation of state (EoS) has been used to predict the density and other thermodynamic properties such as the isobaric expansion coefficient, α P , the isothermal compressibility, κ T , and the internal pressure, P i , of six glycol ethers including diethylene glycol monobutyl ether (DEGBE), propylene glycol propyl ether (PGPE), diethylene glycol monomethyl ether (DEGME), diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (DEGEE), triethylene glycol dimethyl ether (TriEGDME), and tetraethylene glycol dimet… Show more

Since Exact thermodynamic relation P=T(∂p/∂T) ρ −(∂u/∂v) T can be written as (7) Therefore, (8) d(ρ) has been arbitrarily chosen as the following function as ρ=0 at limit of P=0 d(ρ)=eρ+fρ 2 +gρ 3 +hρ 4 (9) Inserting Eq. “…Some investigations cover the volumetric properties of glycol ethers, both with experimental results and calculations [8,9], the thermophysical and health-related characteristics like cytotoxicity, eye-irritancy and biodegradability [10] or microscopic structures of binary water/PGAE mixtures [11]. Upon the feature that PGAE as well as C i EO j are amphiphilic molecules, combining characteristic properties of organic solvents (volatility and solubilization of organics) with those of surfactants (surface activity, formation of emulsions, microemulsions and similar structures), they are considered as hydrotropes or solvo-surfactants.…”

“…A new equation of state (EoS) for liquids has been recently introduced by Goharshadi et al [12] (Goharshadi-Morsali-Abbaspour "GMA EoS") which has been found to be valid for polar, nonpolar, and hydrogen-bonded fluids [12][13][14][15]. The EoS has also been applied for liquid mixtures [16,17].…”
