Investigation of Wear Mechanism of Ball Bearings Lubricated by Bio-Lubricant

Abstract: Due to increased environmental sensitivity, renewable-based lubricants, and food grade lubricants are being considered potential alternatives to petroleum-based lubricants. Understanding of bio-lubricant in relation to abrasive wear is essential for using ball bearings in industrial implementation. This study focused on wear mechanism on ball bearings lubricated by bio-lubricants. Palm oil and coconut oils were used in this study. Coconut oils were made by two processes, namely dry and wet processing, resultin… Show more

“…The main use of polyols is to be used as a reactant to make polymers. Polyols can also be used for other purposes, such as intermediate chemicals, lubricant formulations, and stabilizers (Bresolin et al, 2018;Gasni et al, 2017;Pavani, Pola-Rao, and Prasad, 2017;Kamalakar et al, 2015). Polyols are widely used in the manufacture of polyurethane.…”

“…It is greatly crucial to select the raw materials for lubricant safety. Castor oil, 4 coconut oil 5 and pullulan 6 have been used as biodegradable feedstocks for lubricants; all of those materials were non‐toxic. Bio‐lubricants based on vegetable oil have also been applied in the industrial field, 7,8 and modified vegetable oils could be used safely as lubricants in the food industry, 9 but its oxidation stability is lower than that of mineral oil.…”
