Investigation on Nonlinear Dynamic Characteristics of a New Rigid-Flexible Gear Transmission With Wear

Abstract: At present, the mean value of the meshing stiffness and the gear backlash is a fixed value in the nonlinear dynamic model. In this study, wear is considered in the model of the gear backlash and time-varying stiffness. With the increase of the operating time, the meshing stiffness decreases and the gear backlash increases. A six degrees-of-freedom nonlinear dynamic model of a new rigid-flexible gear pair is established with time-varying stiffness and time-varying gear backlash. The dynamic behaviors of the gea… Show more

“…Their results suggest that uniform wear can actually improve gear wear resistance. Geng [29] established a nonlinear dynamic model that considers uniform wear to analyze the bifurcation diagrams, phase diagrams, Poincaré maps, time series, and FFT spectra of a rigid-flexible gear pair. Sheng [30] proposed a dynamic model to investigate the effects of uniform wear on gear tooth failures, providing a comprehensive analysis of bifurcation characteristics in gear systems.…”

“…As a result, the gap between the gears is changed, which will show a series of destructive phenomena such as gear vibration, noise, wear, etc. [3][4][5] It is not conducive to gear life and the smooth operation of the system. [6][7][8] Therefore, it is necessary to study the dynamic characteristics of the gear in the shearer cutting part under the effect of friction and thermal deformation.…”

“…Gear transmissions are commonly used in aerospace, transportation and industrial machinery. However, excessive contact load, inappropriate operating condition and insufficient lubrication usually cause various tooth failures such as wear (Flodin and Andersson, 1997; Geng et al , 2019; Huangfu et al , 2020a), pit (Chen et al , 2019a), spall (Huangfu et al , 2020b) and crack (Ma et al , 2015), which induce the vibration and noise. To enhance the lifetime and improve the reliability of the gear system, the dynamics have been investigated, and the methods of fault diagnosis have been developed significantly as well in recent years (Liang et al , 2018; Hu et al , 2015; Jiang et al , 2020; Yan et al , 2020a, b).…”
