Tadahiro SakutaModeling was made of Ar induction thermal plasma with an injection of PTFE powder to study fundamentally the effects of polymer ablation on thermal plasma. Interactions between thermal plasma and PTFE powder such as heat conduction, melting, evaporation and radiation was simply taken into account. At the same, the behavior of particle in the plasma was also investigated. The predicted results shows that the injection of PTFE powder can cause the local cooling of Ar thermal plasma temperature field, and that increasing powder feed-rate decreases plasma temperature around torch central axis. Moreover, it was seen that smaller powder size decays plasma much more. On the other hand, it is found that particle trajectory as well as temperature history relate to powder loading, powder size and injection location of particle. This calculated result concerning plasma temperature was compared with the experimental result.
