Investigation on plasma-quenching efficiency of various gases using the inductively coupled thermal plasma technique: effect of various gas injection on Ar thermal ICP

Abstract: Application of the inductively coupled thermal plasma (ICTP) technique was proposed for investigating plasma-quenching efficiency of various gases including the arc-quenching medium of SF6. The ICTP enables us to study fundamentally the effect of gas injection on thermal plasma without any impurities because it has no electrode. Seven kinds of gases including CO2, SF6 and environmentally benign gases (N2, O2, air, He and H2) were injected into Ar ICTP. Spectroscopic obser… Show more

“…It is therefore important to investigate the effects of soild PTFE contacting thermal plasma or arc plasma. Y. Tanaka et al have been studying arc-quenching properties of various gases using an inductively coupled thermal plasma (ICTP) apparatus (1) (3) . The distinguishing feature of the ICTP is to produce clean plasma without any electrode.…”

“…The ICTP technique has some advantages for fundamental and comparative study of gas-plasma interactions both in numerical and experimental approaches [3] since it is free from any contamination. Moreover, in recent days researchers have found some attributes of plasma extinguishing capability and plasma shrinkage in case of molecular gas injection [4,5].…”

“…Secondly, the calculation outputs such as temperature field and mass fraction distributions are demonstrated. Thirdly, the Ar-CO 2 -H 2 ICTP simulation is carried out using two different models i.e., the present one-temperature chemically non-equilibrium (1T-NCE) model and a one-temperature chemically equilibrium (1T-CE) model [3]. For detailed examination of chemical non-equilibrium effects, 1T-NCE calculations under three different pressures were done because it is thought to believe that non-chemical equilibrium affects more at reduced pressure than under normal pressure.…”
