“…The objective function of the controller design is to minimize the sum square of error (SSE) between the reference and measured voltages, 𝑣 𝑟𝑒𝑓 and 𝑣 𝑚 , for the AC voltage regulator of the STATCOM and UPFC in addition to the 𝑉 𝑞 regulator of the SSSC. The objective function and the error signal are expressed by (25) and (26).…”

“…One of the latest technologies of the FACTS devices, the UPFC, was evaluated with wind farms taking the advantage that it enhances the voltage stability, the power flow and the dynamic performance at the PCC [24]. The performance of the UPFC installed in the presence of wind farms was investigated with different controllers, such as the conventional PI controller, Robust Fuzzy-Sliding Mode, FLC and Model-Free Adaptive Control [24][25][26] to improve the voltage regulation and reduce power losses at the PCC. Moreover, Different optimization techniques were used to improve the performance of the conventional PI controller, like PSO, Modified Flower Pollination Algorithm and Grey Wolf Optimizer when used with the UPFC [27][28].…”
