Investigation on the interaction of collagen molecules in solution with different acetic acid concentrations

Abstract: Collagen solutions in the presence of 0.1-2.0M acetic acid (AA) were investigated to understand the interaction between collagen molecules and an acidic solvent. Fluorescence measurements of pyrene showed that the critical aggregation concentration (CAC) of collagen increased from 0.518 to 1.581 mg/mL for AA concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 2.0M, indicating that the aggregated state of collagen molecules was associated with AA concentration. The size of the collagen aggregates, determined by dynamic light sc… Show more

“…[3] Moreover, the addition of CNT endows polymer composites with excellent electromagnetic interference shielding properties. [4][5][6] Recently, there has been increasing research attention in microinjection molding (μIM) of filler-containing polymer composites, [7][8][9][10][11] thanks to their multifunctional performance, especially for CNT-filled polymer composites.…”

“…Thermodynamic rigidity of collagen and its affinity to the solvent can be obtained from Huggins co‐efficient, K H where a range of 0.5–0.8 denotes that the polymer is a flexible chain. Values below and above the scale indicate that the collagen is semi‐rigid and stiff triple helix chains 29 . Thus from the values obtained, the triple helical chain of scale collagen of Piranha and Rohu are semi‐rigid and stiff respectively.…”

“…For this reason, all tested proteins were dissolved in 500 mM acetic acid in this study. The critical aggregation concentration (CAC) of calf skin collagen has been reported to be ∼500 μg/mL in 100 mM acetic acid [41]. Therefore, concentrations greater than this were avoided.…”
