Investigation on the Preparation of Vitrified Bond CBN Grinding Tools

Abstract: The preparation principles of vitrified bond cubic boron nitride (CBN) grinding tools were discussed in this paper in terms of composite material principles and grinding theory. Vitrified bond CBN grinding tools were prepared by using CBN abrasives made in China. The results showed that CBN abrasives made in China could meet the needs of preparation of vitrified bond CBN grinding tools, but suitable sintering temperature of such tools should be lower than 800°C. Matching in thermal expansion coefficients betwe… Show more

“…Matching in thermal expansion coefficients between CBN abrasives and vitrified bond has obvious effect on the strength of the tools. Within the sintering temperature range (1000-800℃), relatively higher sintering temperature is beneficial to the bonding and holding strength [6]. In the experiment, wide range of matched materials were pre-sintered and crushed into powder to test mechanical properties.…”

“…Cubic boron nitride (CBN) is the second hardest materials used in industrial production, exceeded only by diamond. It has high hardness, high chemical inertness, better thermal properties and other advantages [1][2][3]. Because of those superior characteristics, CBN grinding wheels have been widely used in various types of grinding operations, ranging from high-efficiency grinding to high-precision grinding [4][5][6].…”
