Investigation on the thermal properties of new thermo-reversible networks based on poly(vinyl furfural) and multifunctional maleimide compounds

Abstract: Abstract. New thermo-reversible networks were obtained from poly(vinyl furfural) and multifunctional maleimide monomers by Diels-Alder (DA) and retro-DA reactions. The poly(vinyl furfural) having acetalization degree of 15 and 25% were obtained by the acid-catalyzed homogenous acetalization of poly(vinyl alcohol) with 2-furfural in a nonaqueous media. The thermal and viscoelastic behaviour of the cross-linked materials have been studied via differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical analysis and the… Show more

“…Our approach to removable polymer networks is the introduction of chemically labile linkages within cross-linked polymeric networks. We have explored the DA cycloaddition reactions between bismaleimide and furyl monomers or polymers [39][40][41][42]. The mechanical measurements showed a greater elongation at break for obtained polyurethane networks, elongation which can be even nine times higher than that of previously obtained polyurethane networks by Diels-Alder reaction [41].…”

“…The healing liquid flows into the crack and restores the connection between the broken parts [2]. Selfrepair and damage assessment are of interest for concrete parts [3,4], polymers [5,6] and 3 related composites, as well [7][8][9][10]. Hollow fibers may also contain different "indicator" liquids, which can help us to detect the damage development.…”

“…A sharper decrease in E 0 and higher tan d peaks were observed for neat thermoplasticized biopolymers (TPS SG , TPZ, TPS MSG , and TPS UF ). Sharp decreases in E 0 are typical of amorphous polymers; gradual decreases in the same parameter are related with semicrystalline polymers, whereas the tan d peak height is usually related to the molecular mobility [12,21].…”
