Investigation on wind energy for grid connection in Bangladesh: Case study

Abstract: The increasing demand for energy in Bangladesh as well as all over the world is continuously growing unabated because of the increase of the world population and the countries’ fast-developing industrialization programs. In this critical stage of energy crisis, renewable energy is a highly welcome reliable energy source wherein wind energy is the cheapest replenishable and available energy source of the time. Regarding this particular energy source, a feasibility study of the wind energy in Chittagong has been… Show more

“…In previous research [ 18 , 19 ], coastal and hilly locations were thoroughly analyzed for prospective wind resources to install either wind or hybrid power production installations. The focal locations are mostly located in Chittagong, Sitakundu, Coxs' Bazaar, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Teknaf, Kutubdia, and Kuakata [ [20] , [21] , [22] ]. Conventional wind energy research has also been conducted in Bangladesh [ [23] , [24] , [25] , [26] , [27] , [28] , [29] , [30] ], but no one has worked on the estimation of CO 2 emission reduction.…”

“…The two primary components of wind strength are frequently diurnal and seasonal variations. With a peak in the afternoon and a low in the morning, the diurnal variation of the wind likewise displays erratic wind behaviour [ [19] , [20] , [21] ]. It also indicates that the afternoon is the best time to capture wind energy.…”

“…Many studies have evaluated wind resources around the world [21][22][23]; however, there have been relatively few reports on Sri Lanka and the North Indian Ocean. According to Zheng's analysis [24] using ERA-Interim and CMIP5 data, there have been significant changes in wind energy density in the waters of Sri Lanka over the past 40 years and the projected next 40 years.…”
