Investigations of Acacia modesta Wall. leaves for in vitro anti-diabetic, proliferative and cytotoxic effects

Abstract: The leaves of Acacia modesta Wall. have been shown to possess diverse pharmacological properties. Therefore, we aimed at evaluating anti-diabetic, cytotoxic and proliferative effects of extracts of Acacia modesta Wall. leaves. After evaluating the primary and secondary metabolites, anti-diabetic activity of various extracts was assessed by α-amylase inhibition, glucose uptake by yeast cells and non-enzymatic glycosylation of hemoglobin assay. Cytotoxicity and proliferative potential was assessed by MTT (3-(4,5… Show more

“…The inhibition potential was attained using the dinitrosalicylic acid (DNSA) method slight modifications [43,60]. The trial mixture contained 500 μL of 0.02 M Na 3 PO 4 buffer having α -amylase solution (1 U/mL) sample extracts at 20–100 μg/mL and mixed with 100 mL of starch (1%) and incubated for 20 min at 37 °C.…”

“…Non-enzymatic glycosylation of hemoglobin activity was described earlier with some modifications [60]. Briefly, 1 mL of hemoglobin (0.06%), 5 µL of gentamycin (0.02%), 1 mL sample extracts (1 mg/mL) and 1 mL of glucose solution 0.2% was mixed.…”

“…CuO NP treated and non-treated CSC extracts were carried out the antidiabetic activity. Alpha-amylase inhibition was determined using the dinitrosalicylic acid (DNSA) method [25,34]. The test mixture contained 500 µL of 0.02 M Na 3 PO 4 buffer containing α-amylase solution (1 U/mL) and each CSC extract at 20 to 100 µg/mL mixed with 100 mL of starch (1%).…”

“…CuO NPs treated and non-treated CSC extracts were carried out antidiabetic activity. Alphaamylase inhibition assay was completed by the dinitrosalicylic acid method [25,34]. Nonenzymatic glycosylation of hemoglobin activity was estimated as described earlier [34].…”
