Investigations on the synthesis and growth and structural, spectral, optical, mechanical and thermal properties of non-linear optical single crystals of Bis-L-Seriniumoxalate Dihydrate (BLSOD)

Abstract: From the raw materials L-Serine and oxalic acid, the product Bis-LSeriniumoxalatedehydrate(BLSOD) was created. By using a slow evaporation process, the individual BLSOD crystals were produced from aqueous solution. According to single crystal X-ray Diffraction investigations, the structure of the produced crystal is monoclinic. The existence of different functional groups and the chemical environment present in the synthesised material were qualitatively determined through the use of Fourier Transform Infra-Re… Show more

“…According to crystal engineering research, the alignment of donoracceptor chromophores in noncentrosymmetric arrangement determines the formation of efficient second order nonlinear optical behaviour in the materials. The researchers have presented many practical ways in this respect [6][7][8]. Amino acids have carboxyl acid groups (COOH) which are proton-donors and amino groups (NH 2 ) which are proton-acceptors, making these materials for NLO applications.…”

“…However, these materials have inadequate mechanical strength, thermal stability, and laser damage threshold. In addition, it is di cult to produce large, optically pure crystals of these materials for use in devices [4,5]. Semi-organic crystals are more thermally and mechanically stable than organic materials.…”
