Involvement of the C-terminal Region in Phosphate Inhibition of Plasma Membrane Proton Pumping Activity

Abstract: Phosphate inhibited proton pumping across plasma membrane vesicles from rye leaves. Treatment with fusicaccin and trypsin however, which have been demonstrated to be effective in eliminating the autoinhibitory function of the Cterminal region of the plasma membrane proton pump, completely abolished the inhibition of proton pumping by phosphate. It is therefore suggested that phosphate inhibits the plasma membrane proton pumping activity in rye leaves under the influence of the C-terminal region.
