Ion source and LEBT of KAHVELab proton beamline

Abstract: The KAHVE Laboratory, at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Turkey is home to an educational proton linac project. The proton beam will originate from a 20 keV H+ source and will be delivered to a two module Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) operating at 800 MHz via a low energy beam transport (LEBT) line. Currently, the design phase being over, commissioning and stability tests are ongoing for the proton beamline which is already produced and installed except the RFQ which is being manufactured. “…The estimated value was 0.031 𝜋•mm•mrad for both 𝑥 and 𝑦 directions due to cylindrical symmetry. The experimental results were 0.029 𝜋•mm•mrad in 𝑥 and 0.033 𝜋•mm•mrad in 𝑦 directions [14]. These numbers correspond to about 6.5% difference between prediction and measurement.…”

“…When the application areas of particle accelerators are examined, especially discovery of the atomic nucleus, its importance is understood with the continuation of its development in the fields of science and technology. In our country, many activities have been carried out within the scope of accelerator technology, and studies that contribute to its development are still continuing (Sultansoy, 1993;Adıgüzel et al, 2023). Researches have also been conducted to test various radiation applications such as materials, detectors and other electronic devices interacting with protons (Bilge Demirkoz et al, 2020).…”
