Ionic liquid as an effective green inhibitor for acid corrosion of aluminum composite: experimental and theoretical considerations

Abstract: Results of anticorrosive performance of ionic liquid 1-methyl-1-propyl-piperidinium bromide (MPPB) on corrosion of 6061Al-10vol% SiC composite (Al-MMC) in 0.05 M HCl solution. Electrochemical techniques were adopted to study corrosion and corrosion inhibition rates. Experiments were conducted in the temperature range of 308–323 K by varying concentrations of MPPB. Conditions were standardized to accomplish maximum inhibition efficiency. Kinetic parameters were evaluated. Results were fitted into various adsorp… Show more

“…Therefore, water molecules are effectively displaced by DMIH molecules, and the latter are physically adsorbed onto the steel surface. 4 The lower hardness value (0.096) indicates that the DMIH compound is readily absorbed at the steel surface. 5 Another indication that DMIH is an effective corrosion inhibitor is its high global softness value (10.410).…”

“…2,3 It is possible to prevent, or at least minimize, corrosion by using appropriate materials, changing the corrosive environment, using inhibitors, using superior designs, applying coatings, and using cathodic and anodic protection techniques. 4 Low-carbon steel (LCS) is the principal engineering material used to build oil and gas production systems, vessels, and pipelines for transporting water, chemicals, and petroleum products. It is frequently used because of its excellent mechanical characteristics and reasonable price.…”

“…8b, representing the optimal configuration carbon steel with 200 ppm of IL-H, exhibit the emergence of the N peak from the ionic liquid inhibitor molecules. This implies that a layer of protective inhibitor has been applied to the surface of the carbon steel, which possesses the ability to effectively protect against the process of metal corrosion 52 . In addition, there was an observed decline in the peaks associated with O and Cl, coupled with increased levels of Fe content.…”
