Ionic-liquid-modified magnetic nanoparticles as a solid-phase extraction adsorbent coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography for the determination of linear alkylbenzene sulfonates in water samples

Abstract: Novel ionic-liquid-functionalized Fe O magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized by the thiol-ene click reaction. The prepared functionalized Fe O nanoparticles possessed multiple interactions, such as electrostatic, hydrophobic, and π-π interactions. The functionalized Fe O nanoparticles were characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometry, and transmission electron microscopy. Four kinds of linear alkylbenzene sulfonates, namely, sodium decylbenz… Show more

“…The limited methods presented for the determination of LABs, including GC-FID and GC-MS techniques in marine sediments and wastewaters, have been reported in the literature. In these methods, before chromatographic analysis, solid phase extraction (SPE), liquid-liquid extraction, thin layer chromatography and Soxhlet extraction methods have been used to extract and preconcentrate the sample [21][22][23].…”

“…Nanocomposites with core-shell structure consisting of two or more different nanoscale materials have aroused more interests among researchers. Core-shell nanocomposites not only provide the stability for the nanocomposites in solution but also facilitate their binding with various ligands for various applications such as drug delivery, cancer hyperthermia treatments magnetic, and separation [1] , [2] , [3] , [4] , [5] . Comparison with other nanocomposites, the surface of core-shell nanocomposites is more uniform and can be functionalized conveniently.…”

“…The core of SPE is the adsorbent that determines the selectivity and sensitivity of the method. However, the widely used commercial SPE adsorbents, such as bonded silicas (C 8 , C 18 ), Graphene , Alumina N , and nanomaterials are often limited by their shortcomings, such as the high costs, potential health, and environmental risks and the narrow applicable ranges. Thus, developing new SPE adsorbents is of high value.…”
