IoT-BBMS: Internet of Things-Based Baby Monitoring System for Smart Cradle

Abstract: The current number of working mothers has greatly increased. Subsequently, baby care has become a daily challenge for many families. Thus, most parents send their babies to their grandparents' house or to baby care houses. However, the parents cannot continuously monitor their babies' conditions either in normal or abnormal situations. Therefore, an Internet of Things-based Baby Monitoring System (IoT-BBMS) is proposed as an efficient and low-cost IoT-based system for monitoring in real time. We also proposed … Show more

“…The detection algorithm needs to be able to detect the cry sound despite the background sounds happening in the environment. Researchers also propose different methods to build smart cradles, which can detect infant cries and alert the parents while they are away [99][100][101][102]. The proposed methods not only target to higher detection accuracy but also consider the price of the baby monitoring system to make it affordable for low income families.…”

“…The devices also tend to transmit the raw sensing data to its manufacturer for detailed data mining inside the remote data center [26]. Some other use cases entail explicit requirement of transmitting sensor data over the communication network, such as [27] for baby monitoring empowering smart cradle, and [28] for a pedestrian crossing control system. Assistance required from communication networks for few applications has hard QoS bounds to ensure the infrastructure's safety and security, such as mentioned in [29] for smart grids.…”
