IP address assignment in wireless mesh networks

Abstract: In recent years cheap Internet access has become increasingly popular within the industrialized countries. Especially in the age of Web 2.0, where popular Internet applications begin to dominate computer use, ubiquitous network access is more important than ever. A new class of networks aim to satisfy the demand for high bandwidth, low-cost, and ubiquitous Internet access: wireless mesh networks (WMNs). However, in order to reach a greater market penetration a fundamental factor must yet to be addressed: the e… Show more

“…A similar idea is presented in [4], [5], but our design simplifies and improves the tree formation process by integrating routing tree establishment with mesh auto-configuration minimizing routing overhead of the network. Our scheme is different from [6], instead of using special broadcast packets the protocol subtly uses DHCP configuration process for route establishment and DHCP packets for carrying route metric. Specifically with DHCP server residing on GW, DHCP DISCOVER is employed as route request from Ri to GW and DHCP OFFER to communicate route reply from GW to Ri.…”

“…y To ensure the service smoothly, online wireless application IP address should be gradual transited to the planning scheme, the new terminal, new business system IP address should be allocated in accordance with the plan of IP address. y To meet the needs of the network and system integration and business development, IP address planning should has good expansibility, IP address space needs a reasonable IP address reservation, IP address reservation should pay attention to IP address aggregate, at the same time, there should be a certain limit, avoid address idle and waste [1] . y To minimize the impact on the business system, does not affect the use of important application systems.…”

“…An IPV6 autoconfiguration scheme is proposed in [19] for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) which is based on location information of the sensor nodes. Dynamic WMN (Wireless Mesh Network) Configuration Protocol (DWCP) [20] is an autoconfiguration scheme for Wireless Mesh Networks. The algorithm exploits the hierarchal structure of the WMN.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge there is no practically implemented multihop IP header compression scheme for IP based ad hoc networks. However, simulation studies for MANET IP header compression (MIPHC) and MIPHC/ROHC schemes [20] have been conducted. These schemes offer less bandwidth conservation as compared to point-to-point ROHC scheme, whereas the proposed framework implements a multihop IP header compression using ROHC library, with similar compression gain offered by ROHC for point-to-point links.…”
