Irritation Fibroma Associated with Ectopic Eruption of the Maxillary Incisor

Abstract: Irritation fibroma is a common hyperplastic lesion of the oral mucosa that can occur in response to chronic irritation or trauma. This report presents an unusual case of irritation fibroma associated with ectopic eruption of the maxillary left central incisor in a patient with Angelman syndrome. “…Treatment modalities employed for ectopically erupted maxillary incisors include: observation for spontaneous self-correction after removal of the causative factor, such as extraction of corresponding retained primary teeth or removal of a cyst/pathology (Jeong et al, 2016); extraction followed by space closure using fixed orthodontic mechanotherapy or restorative replacement with a fixed prosthesis (Bhandari, 2016); and orthodontic alignment of the tooth by means of either a removable or fixed appliance (Canoglu et al, 2008; Gugnani et al, 2017). The selection of an appropriate treatment plan is governed by various factors, including the extent of structural damage, the patient’s facial profile, location of the ectopic tooth, condition of the ectopically erupted tooth root, amount of space available for alignment, and the upper and lower lip support provided by the maxillary and mandibular incisors (Bhandari, 2016).…”
