Tourism contributes to mental health. We could: recognize, measure, value, and market those contributions; analyze components and design products to maximize mental health benefits; and use mental health benefits in tourism industry marketing and lobbying. If we measure benefits to health-research standards, then tourism could also gain commercial opportunities within the health sector. Currently, there are widely differing bodies of evidence within different tourism subsectors, reflecting historical research emphases. Music, museums, and shopping malls have been identified as therapeutic for some. Nature tourism therapies have been tested extensively, with a higher standard of evidence. Adventure tourism has been analyzed principally from a phenomenological perspective, indicating powerful psychological effects. Many mental health therapies require continuing behavioral change. Tourism research could contribute to these therapies, since it includes detailed data on the effects of program design and guiding, and individual personalities, interests, capabilities, motivations, experiences, emotions, and satisfaction.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development outlines 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), one of which is about creating and enhancing sustainable communities. Earthship Biotecture, with its own model within the broader ecovillage landscape, has emerged both as a transformative architecture practice and a social movement directly addressing sustainability in the building of houses and communities. This approach to off-grid infrastructure promotes do-it-yourself building utilizing trash as core building materials. Drawing on 24 interviews with Earthship Biotecture builders, we assess what pushed them out of mainstream livelihoods and what pulled them into the Earthship Biotecture community. We find that individuals were largely pushed due to personal crisis, experience of environmental tragedy, or awareness of environmental crisis. The pulls were to gain skills, overcome tragedy, become part of the solution, and ultimately be part of a community.

This study aims to assess the richness of knowledge about medicinal plants in the Truká indigenous community, highlighting the most important ones, as well as verifying whether that knowledge is influenced by socioeconomic factors. A survey on species used as therapeutic resources was carried out through semi-structured interviews, and the indices of use value (UV), relative importance (RI), and salience (SI) of the species were calculated. Additionally, the relationship of socioeconomic factors with the knowledge of medicinal plants was evaluated using generalized linear models (GLM). Ninety-nine ethnospecies were registered, and those most relevant to the indigenous community were among the botanical families Fabaceae and Lamiaceae. The plants most important to the residents of the community were used mainly for hypertension and anxiety. Older people, and those with a greater number of residents at home and lower income, knew a greater number of medicinal plants.
