“…Some studies suggest that cultural heritage and attractions are major tourism drivers (e.g., Herbert, 2001;Vietze, 2008), also because of their uniqueness and difficult transferability (Dritsakis, 2004). Other studies stress do not find cultural sites and attractions to effectively attract tourists (see, e.g., Cuccia and Cellini, 2007). Similar contradictory results are found, for example, for WHS designations.…”

Similar contradictory results are found, for example, for externally certified attractions, such as UNESCO's World Heritage sites (WHS).…”

“…In this regard, it is clear that culture and the quality of historical heritage determine part of the tourist flow and individuals 0 preferences when planning their trip (Cuccia & Cellini, 2007), either as the specific goal of their visit (Guccio, Lissi, Mignosa, & Rizzo, 2017) or as part of the activities to be carried out during the stay, even this does not have a specific cultural finality in itself, making up what is referred to as omnivorous tourism (Barbieri & Mahoney, 2010). For this reason, and in the domain of efficiency studies of tourist destinations, works focusing on specifically gauging the impact of these cultural variables are becoming increasingly common.…”
