“…The said Act was made operational as 'Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme' (MGNREGS) as a classified Centrally Sponsored Scheme. After it was first launched at Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh, all the rural districts of the country were brought under its umbrella by April 1, 2008 [1]. The Act provided a legal guarantee for 100 days of wage employment in a year to every demanding rural household whose adult members would be agreeable to carry out unskilled manual work [2] and, in the process, to assist them in promoting their livelihood security [3].…”
