Is pelvic floor muscle contractility an important factor in anal incontinence?

Abstract: The degree of pelvic floor muscle contractility, as assessed on clinical and sonographic examination, was not found to be associated independently with symptoms of anal incontinence. What are the clinical implications of this work?Current evidence does not support pelvic floor muscle weakness as a factor in the etiology of anal incontinence.
