“…Antegrade stenting can also be performed in 2 different ways such as; internal DJ stent and external pyelo-nephroureterostomy tube placement. There are numerous publications assessing the effectivity of those 3 main approaches [11,12,13,14,15,16]. It has been shown that despite their own advantages, many of those techniques have some drawbacks.…”

“…Traditional transanastomotic nephrostomy tube drainage of the kidney has been replaced by JJ catheter stenting of the ureter to drain pediatric pyeloplasty. [1][2][3] Although nonstented pyeloplasty has been used in pediatric patients with similar results to stented pyeloplasty, [4,5] JJ catheter drainage can shorten hospital stay and reduce nursing care requirement. [2] Pediatric patients who underwent JJ catheter stented pyeloplasty for UPJ obstruction showed similar rate of complications compared to nonstented pyeloplasty (12% vs. 14%), while more infections and secondary procedures were seen in the nonstented group.…”

“…This currently is the technique of choice for most surgeons involved in the laparoscopic treatment of UPJ obstruction [3,[8][9][10]. Chandrasekharam [13] supports the retrograde stenting technique based on his experience of 14/17 successful antegrade stenting (82%) and 24/25 (96%) successful retrograde stenting.…”

“…Nevertheless, few reports have focused on the results of this surgical step during laparoscopic pyeloplasty [12][13][14].…”
