Is there a Need for Own Median Calculation in the Second Trimester Biochemical Markers Screening?

Abstract: Screening of fetal aneuploidies in early pregnancy is a well-established method in the materno-fetal medicine. The aim of our study was to analyze if the medians recommended by the manufacturers are adequate to perform an accurate screening or if there is a need for own laboratory medians calculation in second trimester biochemical marker screening.Sera were collected between 14 wp and 22 wp from 3374 singleton pregnancies. We analyzed three second trimester biochemical markers (AFP, hCG and free Estriol) con… Show more

“…We searched the link between lipidic changes in pregnancies with PE and the way prophylactic treatments with acetylsalicilic acid or low molecular weight heparines can influence the evolution of pregnancy, avoiding the severe complications of this disease.Changes in lipid metabolism from pregnancies with preeclampsia are a challenge for the obstetrician, because they contribute to the pathological chain and to some specific severe complications (severe hypertriglyceridemia of pregnancy, acute pancreatitis etc) [3]. The histopathological exams revealed the accumulation of lipidloaded macrophages in the affected endothelium [4,5].In normal pregnancy, an activation by resetting the hypothalamic lipostat, which causes hyperlipidemia [6] is described. Lipid alterations are more marked in pregnant women with PE and major changes are seen in triglycerides-hypertriglyceridemia.…”

“…Further studies should be performed on better characterized groups of patients to evaluate the course of IgG-anti-F(ab')2 antibodies along pregnancy and their role in spontaneous abortion or other pregnancy complications. Considering the risks to the fetus in pregnant women with anti-thyroide antibodies [4][5][6][7], we recommend performing the screening for thyroid pathology together with the other screenings [23][24][25].…”
