Purpose This study aims to examine the effect of professional commitment, commitment to ethics, internal locus of control and emotional intelligence on the ability to detect fraud through reduced audit quality behaviors. Design/methodology/approach The analysis unit is the internal auditor in internal control unit at state Islamic religious higher education in Indonesia. Data processing used covariance-based structural equation modeling using Lisrel Software and the Sobel test to verify the direct and indirect effects. Findings This study found empirical evidence that professional commitment and emotional intelligence positively impact the ability to detect fraud. Commitment to ethics and emotional intelligence has a negative effect on reduced audit quality behaviors. Furthermore, this study also provides that commitment to ethics and emotional intelligence indirectly impacts on the ability to detect fraud through reduced audit quality behaviors. Practical implications The organization periodically monitors auditors’ behaviors, especially reduced audit quality behaviors, during the audit process and encourages regulators to formulate policies related to increasing the ability to detect fraud. Originality/value This study provides knowledge regarding the driving force of internal auditors to mitigate reduced audit quality behaviors and increase the ability to detect fraud.

Multireligious communities need to acquire multicultural competence (MC) to help them deal with complex interactions taking place in the repertoire of religious and cultural differences. Hence, this explanatory mixed-method study sought to quantitatively measure the MC of Indonesia’s multireligious communities and to qualitatively explore the factors contributing to the formation of their MC. A quantitative survey with 30-item valid and reliable questionnaires was conducted to measure the MC of 577 respondents from a population of Indonesia’s multireligious communities by using a convenient sampling technique. A descriptive qualitative study was further executed to explore the contributing factors of MC by involving 20 participants recruited using a purposive sampling technique. The data were analysed using descriptive-quantitative and interactive-model techniques. The quantitative data revealed that the multireligious communities had a high level of MC (M=3.64) demonstrated by high levels of multicultural awareness, skills, and knowledge with a balanced composition. The qualitative data highlighted five factors shaping their MC. These factors entailed mutual respect, tolerance, internalization of multicultural attitudes, good communication, and interactions with cultural traditions. Further studies could use these factors to develop multicultural education programs or interventions.

Prevailing consumption‐based business models and capitalist practices place significant strain on the environment and society. Buddhism, as a practicing religion, may provide insights on practicing models as a solution to sustain society, the environment, and businesses. The present investigation adopts a structured literature review methodology to take stock of such prior studies and articulate its representation of Buddhism‐based business models, practices, ethical frameworks, and economic views. Based on the findings, it is clear that the prior studies have discussed the practitioner context of Buddhism religion in order to promote ethical and mindful business practices at the consumer, managerial, and business levels; to reduce the negative effects of identity politics in the workplace through spirituality; to introduce the idea of considering factors other than purely financial profitability; and to encourage the long‐term viability and genuine happiness of individuals, communities, and organizations. In relation to these topics, research avenues are proposed.
