‘Isabella’: A New Early Maturity Pigeonpea

Registration of indeterminate and photoperiod‐insensitive IIPG‐7 and IIPG‐11 pigeonpea germplasm

“…IIPG‐7 and IIPG‐11 BL were developed from the bi‐parental cross ‘ICPL 86012’/‘Guerrero’ conducted by emasculation and pollinations at the Isabela Research Substation, University of Puerto Rico, in February 2019. ICPL 86012 was selected because it is photoperiod insensitive (Chauhan et al., 1999), has early flowering (<85 DAP) and early maturity (<146 DAP), and has seed yields between 300 and 2400 kg ha −1 in Puerto Rico (Viteri & Linares, 2023; Viteri et al., 2020). ICPL 86012 has a determinate flowering habit, and plant height does not exceed 2 m even under long‐day conditions (Viteri & Linares, 2023; Viteri et al., 2020).…”
