Abstract: SummaryThe importance of reperfusion injury in equine intestine is controversial and unclear. Large colon volvulus and small intestinal strangulation are the most devastating causes of intestinal ischemia in horses and result in severe mucosal damage, barrier dysfunction, endotoxic shock and death.
