Isobaric Vapor–Liquid Equilibrium Data of Binary Systems Containing 2-Ethoxyethanol, 2-Ethoxyethyl Acetate, and Toluene

Abstract: Isobaric vapor−liquid equilibrium data of the binary systems comprising 2-ethoxyethanol, 2-ethoxyethyl acetate, and toluene were measured using an ebulliometer. The boiling temperatures of the binary mixtures are reported for six different pressures ranging from 53.3 to 101.3 kPa. The binary system 2-ethoxyethanol−toluene shows a low-boiling azeotrope around 90 mol % toluene. A nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) model was used to fit the binary (PTx) data. The experimental data were verified using the thermodynamic c… Show more

“…The VLE experiments were carried out using a modified ebulliometer. , The ebulliometer was cleaned with acetone to remove impurities of any other chemical. Traces of acetone were also removed by keeping the system under vacuum for a few hours.…”

“…In addition, the test on the thermodynamic consistency based on the methodology proposed by Redlich and Kister 47 was performed for all the obtained experimental data. This test was chosen to verify the thermodynamic consistency of the experimental data because of its wide use in the literature, for instance in the works by Martin et al, 48 Vargas et al, 49 Parsana et al 50 and Das et al 51 The area test has been chosen also because it does not require (and the results do not depend on) any thermodynamic model, differently from a point-to-point test.…”

“…Accurate VLE data for the binary systems 2-methyltetrahydrofuran + formic acid, 13 2-ethoxyethanol + toluene, and 2-ethoxyethyl acetate + toluene have been measured at atmospheric pressure and vacuum pressure. 14 An ebulliometer was used to measure the boiling points of THF + AA and THF + TCE mixtures at five and six different pressures, respectively. The nonrandom two liquid (NRTL) and universal quasichemical (UNIQUAC) activity coefficient models were used to accurately correlate the experimental data.…”

“…For VLE data measured under vacuum, the PTx approach is better, as we can assume that the vapor phase is ideal. Accurate VLE data for the binary systems 2-methyltetrahydrofuran + formic acid, 2-ethoxyethanol + toluene, and 2-ethoxyethyl acetate + toluene have been measured at atmospheric pressure and vacuum pressure . An ebulliometer was used to measure the boiling points of THF + AA and THF + TCE mixtures at five and six different pressures, respectively.…”
