Isolated demyelinating syndromes: comparison of CSF oligoclonal bands and different MR imaging criteria to predict conversion to CDMS

Abstract: We observed a high prevalence of OB in CIS. OB and MR imaging (Paty's and Fazekas' criteria) have high sensitivity. Barkhof's criteria have a higher specificity. Both OB and MR imaging criteria have a high negative predictive value.

“…[14] Eight studies [4,6,11,17,19,20,25,26] had performed subgroup analyses based on the number of different lesions. Eleven studies [2,7,8,12,13,17,18,[21][22][23]26] did not report the number of exclusions or lost to follow-up during the study period. Two studies [6,26] described the incidence of MS in CIS patients for the first time MRI in different parts of demyelinating lesions.…”

“…[21] Six studies, [4,6,8,[19][20][21] which described CIS patients were treated with drugs during the study period. MS was diagnosed in 15 studies [3][4][5][6][9][10][11][12][15][16][17][18][19]22,26] by Poser criteria; CIS patients developed MS according to McDonald criteria in eight studies, [7,8,13,20,21,[23][24][25] and one study according to Schumacher criteria.
