“…In cases of situs inversus totalis the diagnosis is usually made early during the initial evaluation. However, there have also been reports of rare cases of isolated abnormal position of the stomach that could make bariatric procedures extremely difficult [16]. These included incomplete rotation of the stomach with an abnormal position behind or above the liver, sometimes even with diaphragmatic hernia and displacement of the stomach into the thorax.…”

“…The right-sided stomach may lie completely behind the liver (type I) or may lie above the liver in association with the eventration of the right hemidiaphragm (type II). Type I is rarer than type II, having an incidence <100,000 [2], This anomaly may result in gastrointestinal disturbances but it is also compatible with normal digestion and may produce no symptoms [4,5], Embryologically, the stomach develops by sacculation from the primitive foregut. The most distal part of the foregut and the proximal part of the midgut contributes to the development of duodenum.…”

“…Rotation in the opposite direction (anticlockwise) causes the right-sided stomach and the duodenal loop with the greater curvature of the stomach facing right and C-shaped convexity of the duodenum facing left [1,6]. This rotation anomaly results in type I dextrogastria, if it is associated with failure of the complete descent of the foregut from the chest, type II dextrogastria will occur [2,5], In the review of the English written literature, there are few reported cases of dextrogastria [4,7,8] and isolated dextrogastria of either type [2,3,5,9,10]. Our case repre sents isolated dextrogastia (type II) in retrocardiac loca tion with esophageal and fundal varices.…”
