Isolation and Identification of Dominant N2 Fixing Cyanobacterial Strains from Different Locations

Abstract: Isolation of cyanobacteria dominated in the soil samples collected from different sites in Kafr El-Sheikh, and El-Dkahlia governorates isolates were successfully obtained as bacterial free cyanobacteria. They were identified cyanobacteria was carried out using the following: thallus color, thallus morphology and size of heterocyst, vegetative and reproductive cells. Heterocyst-forming cyanobacteria were also cultured as Anabaena sp., Nostoc sp., Oscillatoria sp., and Chroococcus sp. Nostoc sp . were isolated a… Show more

“…Previous field inoculation studies on rice have used N 2 -fixing cyanobacteria, Azospirillum, Azotobacter and other candidates as biofertilizer inoculants ( Omar et al 1993, Shahaby et al 1993and Yanni and Abd El-Fattah 1999& Afify et al, 2018.They concluded that inoculation with cyanobacteria positively contributed to rice plant growth, paddy yield and grain quality, with positive turnover effects on soil fertility and productivity of next crop(s). However, this is also confirmed in this study which clearly documenting similar positive effects of inoculation with Nfixing cyanobacteria ( Abou -Elatta , 2018 ) .…”

“…Some chemical characteristics of chlorpyrifos according to Venkta Mohan et al, (2004). Also, chemical characteristics of carbofuran according to Chowdhury et al (2014) are presented in Abou Elatta et al, (2023) and Afify et al, (2023b). These insecticides were obtained from Sigma -Co., USA.…”

“…The five cyanobacterial strains " Nostoc muscorum k , Anabaena oryzae D, Anabaena oryzae k , Nostoc pruniforme D , and Oscillatoria brevis D " were isolated from rhizosphere of rice (Oryzae sativum L. ) plant , cyanobacterial strains were identified morphologically , biochemically , and by cultural characters as described previously (Afify et al , 2018) .These five cyanobacterial strains are chosen from fourteen strains because they were the most antagonistic ones against the flax pathogenic fungi F.oxysporum and R. solani . All cyanobacterial strains were isolated from rhizosphere of rice plant in the governorates of El-Dakahliya (D) and kafr El -Sheikh (k).…”
