Isolation and identification of furocoumarins from the seeds ofPsoralea corylifolialinn.

Abstract: Isolation of isomeric furocoumarins from the seeds of Psoralea corylifolia Linn. (Family Leguminosae) is being reported for the first time from the variety found in western Rajasthan. On the basis of physical and spectral parameters, i.e., UV, IR, NMR, mass and chemical reactions such as hydrolysis, alkali fusion and oxidation, they have been identified as 2H-furo[3',2'-g][1] benzopyran-2-one (1) and 2H-furo[2',3'-h] [1-] benzopyran-2-Psoralea corylifolia L. is an annual weed growing Spots were identified by U… Show more

“…Seeds are usually brownish-black in color, smooth, and adhere to the pericarp [28,29]. The plant is widely used in several skin diseases such as psoriasis [30], leucoderma and leprosy [31]. The therapeutic action of P. corylifolia against various diseases such as asthama, diarrhoea, alopecia areata [32], impotency, menstruation disorder and uterine hemorrhage [33].…”

“…The roots of P. corylifolia has been investigated for bioactive compounds. It was found that furanocoumarins psoralen and isopsoralen isolated from a petroleum ether extract were responsible for the anti‐feedant activity against instar Spodoptera litura larvae (Sah et al, ; Figure ).…”
