Isolation and13C-NMR Studies on Cathovaline, an Alkaloid from the Leaves ofCatharanthus roseus

Abstract: Studies on the alkaloidal constituents of the leaves of CATHARANTHUS ROSEUS have resulted in the isolation of cathovaline. (13)C-NMR studies have been carried out on the alkaloid using ADEPT and APT pulse sequences. Cathovaline has not been previously reported from this plant but has been isolated from the roots of CATHARANTHUS LANCEUS (Boj. ex. A. De) pich (1) and CATHARANTHUS OVALIS Markgraf, sp. nov. (2).
