Isolation, Identification and Characteristics of Aeromonas veronii From Diseased Crucian Carp (Carassius auratus gibelio)

Abstract: Aeromonas species often cause disease in farmed fish. In the present study, dominant bacteria were isolated from diseased crucian carp (Carassius auratus gibelio). Based on this, a bacterial isolate was tentatively named CFJY-623. This isolate was identified as Aeromonas veronii based on analysis of its morphological, physiological, and biochemical features, as well as 16S rRNA and gyrB gene sequences. Six virulence genes related to pathogenicity including aerolysin, cytotonic enterotoxins, elastase, glyceroph… Show more

“…Aeromonas infection of fish also cause skin ulcers, intra-abdominal hemorrhage, and other clinical symptoms. Interestingly, there are a variety of symptoms caused by different types of Aeromonas infections (15). For example, the clinical signs of bacterial septicemia in catfish caused by A. veronii were pale gills, slight abdominal distension, and swollen and inflamed vents (46).…”

“…It has also been isolated from chlorinated and untreated drinking water [2][3][4][5][6]. Several Aeromonas species including A. veronii are pathogens of aquatic animals, causing diseases such as skin ulceration and systemic hemorrhagic septicemia in fish, which is a great concern in aquaculture globally [7][8][9].…”

“…Members of Aeromonas have been reported from fish with a wide range of both beneficial and pathogenic outcomes [ 75 , 89 , 90 ]. The furunculosis committee had considered the fish intestine as an important niche for the isolation of Aeromonad species [ 35 , 91 – 93 ].…”
