Abstract:A hypodiploid strain of Tetrahymena thermophila has been obtained that shows arrest at the stage of condensed nuclei, corresponding to metaphase I of normal conjugants and induced arrest at meiotic metaphase I (i.e. at the stage of condensed, bivalent chromosomes) in its wt partner mate. The metaphase I arrested conjugants retained their old macronuclei and most of them underwent cell fusion, instead of separation of exconjugants. The doublets were viable and cortically integrated. When the arrest inducing str… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
