Isolation of Buttiauxella gaviniae from a Spinal Cord Patient with Urinary Bladder Pathology

Abstract: A gram-negative Buttiauxella gaviniae-like organism (LBV449) was isolated from a urine sample of a patient suffering from urine bladder pathology and neurological problems. The isolate was positive for adonitol fermentation and L-arginine dihydrolase and negative for melibiose and L-ornithine decarboxylase. The API 20E code was 3004113. Retrospectively, another isolate (ENT107), from a leg wound, was recovered from our collections and was shown to have similar biochemical characteristics. DNA-DNA hybridization… Show more

“…1A). At least three of these genera have been implicated in human infection (24)(25)(26)(27) and are consequently considered to be of medical importance. In contrast, the newly developed primer pair terminates over positions that are fully conserved across all Enterobacteriaceae genera examined (Fig.…”

“…Baere et al. described the isolation of Buttiauxella gaviniae from a spinal cord patient with urinary bladder pathology and Antonello et al. reported a case of post‐cesarean surgical infection due to Buttiauxella agrestis in a young woman with no comorbidities.…”

“…Although Buttiauxella species have been reported in different types of habitats, there are some clinical cases related to this bacterial genus. Baere et al (2) described the isolation of Buttiauxella gaviniae from a spinal cord patient with urinary bladder pathology and Antonello Analysis of 16s rDNA for seven Buttiauxella species has demonstrated a very high degree of phylogenetic relatedness among them, but different in terms of certain metabolic characteristics. There is also similarity with some other Enterobacteriaceae, in particular the Citrobacter species (5).…”
