Isomorphous Substitution of Iron and Nickel into Analcime Zeolite

Abstract: Studies on the effects of iron and nickel incorporation into the hydrothermal synthesis of ANA zeolite were carried out. The presented work reveals that pure Fe-Al analcime is synthesized by using starting composition with a higher iron(III) content than reported in previous publications. Furthermore, the iron(III) and nickel(II) contents play important roles in the framework of the synthesized zeolite. 759XRD, FT-IR spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance UV/Vis spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption and SEM were used t… Show more

“…The detected presence of Fe in the area where the analcime crystal is located could be explained by two hypotheses a) the incorporation of Fe 3+ in the analcime framework partially substituting Al 3+ or b) from the remaining IP binder behind the crystal. Noteworthy to mention is that according to Naser et al [26], when there is substitution of Al 3+ by Fe 3+ on the analcime, no other distinctive peaks on the XRD pattern are present, which is in agreement with the observation in Figure 11. On the other hand, if Fe 3+ would be incorporated into the analcime structure, the dspacing between crystal layers would increase, as the Fe 3+ has a higher ionic radius (i.e., ~0.63 Å) than Al 3+ (i.e., ~0.54 Å) [25].…”
