Isopods are a diverse peracarid crustacean group with marine, freshwater and terrestrial representatives. Isopod species lists were typically prepared according to different habitats, which was true also for Slovenia. Here, we prepared the first unified overview of isopod species for Slovenia, which is also the first list of marine isopods in the country. We examined scientific publications, research reports and institutional databases. A total of 126 species have been recorded in Slovenia, of which 31 are marine, 21 are found in freshwater, and 74 are terrestrial. Of these, we report on seven marine and one terrestrial species for the first time. A major part of freshwater isopod richness is linked to the subterranean environment, where most endemic species for the country can be found. Among marine species, many are parasites, with potential economic impact, and two species are considered introduced. When the new species list is considered with valid national legislation, only 41 species retained the same taxonomic status. Many synonyms and invalid taxa according to recent taxonomy point out the need for revision the national red list of Malacostraca as well as other nature protection acts.

Four new isopods, Amakusanthura intermediasp. nov., Apanthura laevipedatasp. nov., Idarcturus trispinosussp. nov., and Neastacilla paralongipectussp. nov., are reported from the sublittoral zones in Korean waters. Amakusanthura intermediasp. nov. differs from its congeners by the following features: the uropodal exopod is sinuous distally and with pointed apex; the maxillipedal endite is present and reaching to the distal end of fused palp articles I and II; and the propodal palm of pereopod I is stepped. Apanthura laevipedatasp. nov. can be distinguishable from its related species by the following characteristics: the eye is lacking; the propodal palm of pereopod I is not stepped; and the uropodal exopod is not sinuous. Idarcturus trispinosussp. nov. is diagnosed by the following features: the cephalon has three dorsal spines and a pair of lateral spines; pereonite IV has two pairs of small dorsolateral spines, four pairs of dorsal spines, and one posterior spine; and the pleotelson has three pairs of wings laterally. Neastacilla paralongipectussp. nov. can be distinguished by the following characteristics: the body is smooth and lacking dorsal spines or tubercles; pereonite IV is approximately 5.4× longer than pereonites II and III together; and the pleotelson has two pairs of lateral wings. In this paper, detailed descriptions and illustrations of the four species are presented. A key to the genera of the family Arcturidae and keys to the species of the four genera are also provided.

First records of six species of crustaceans for the eastern Mediterranean Sea

This paper deals with six crustacean species associated with Posidonia oceanica (Linnaeus) Delile, 1813 meadows along the Aegean coasts of Turkey: Caprella tavolarensis, Eriopisella ruffoi, Iphimedia vicina, Astacilla mediterranea, Apseudopsis minimus and Macropodia deflexa. Apseudopsis minimus is a new record for the Turkish coast of the Aegean Sea, the other five species are new records for the eastern Mediterranean. Brief descriptions of the species and their morphological and ecological characteristics are given.
