Among these, three methyl-substituted naphthalenones such as cis -isoshinanolones ( 1 ), trans -isoshinanolone ( 2 ) and its biosynthetic precursor, plumbagin ( 3 ) were isolated first from a plant, Diospyros maritima by Tezuka (Figure A) .
