Isotherm and Kinetic Modeling of Strontium Adsorption on Graphene Oxide

Abstract: In this study, graphene oxide (GO) was synthesized using Hummers method. The synthesized GO was characterized using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) nitrogen adsorption. The analyses confirmed the presence of oxygen functional groups (C=O and C-O-C) on the GO surface. These oxygen functional groups act as active sites in the adsorption Sr (II).… Show more

“…Figure 3 demonstrates the FTIR spectra of the GO for the wavelength range of 450–4000 cm −1 . The main characteristic peaks of the GO group were in good agreement with what was previously reported [ 36 39 ]. The carbonyl, alkoxy, and epoxy functional groups were confirmed by the FTIR peaks at 1703 cm −1 , 1055 cm −1 , and 1229 cm −1 , respectively.…”

“…Similarly, granular manganese oxide shows relatively good sorption capacity, very weak affinity, and long equilibrium time [ 73 ]. The sorption properties of SA*PEI, based on the compromise between sorption capacity and affinity, kinetics, and pH, are comparable to those reported for amidoximated algal/PEI beads [ 38 ], functionalized silica beads [ 74 ], functionalized graphene oxide [ 75 ], and graphene oxide [ 76 ]. Compared with a commercial ion-exchanger (i.e., sulfonated Dowex 50W-X8 resin) that also bears sulfonic groups, the sorption capacity, determined at lower pH (i.e., 3.7), is of the same order (as well as the equilibrium time) while the affinity coefficient is significantly higher (up to 206 L mmol −1 ).…”

“…However, compared with initial adsorption, the Raman spectra of GOA after adsorption obtained a lower intensity of peak G, and there have slightly moved. That can be explained by the interaction between oxygen functional groups of GOA and PN, or BPA [70] …”
