An aim of this paper is to work out part of the culture history of Proto-Austronesian (PAN) 1 speakers through reconstructed vocabulary (Zorc 1994). We cannot simply go to a zoo, a botanical garden, or a supermarket in modern Taipei to find out what flora and fauna were available to the PAN speakers of southern Taiwan about five millennia ago.…”
