The year 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Zeitschrift für vergleichende Physiologie, the predecessor of the Journal of Comparative Physiology A. Over these 100 years, 8083 authors published 9445 articles, many of which reported milestone discoveries in comparative physiology and later neuroethology (for a historical review see Zupanc et al. 2024). Virtually every prominent scholar associated with these disciplines has published in the Journal of Comparative Physiology A. This list includes Karl von Frisch, who served as the Journal's first Editor-in-Chief and was recognized for his pioneering achievements with a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1973.The excellence of the articles in the Journal of Comparative Physiology A is, however, not only a hallmark of the past but also of the present.
