“…Archivists in need found little support from campus IT units, which Yaco attributes to a general lack of understanding of the mission of the library and archives. 13 Participants in our discussion session "Working Together: Campus Digital Partnerships" reported that they often had to find creative, but not always efficient or sustainable, ways of working around IT in order to get technology-based projects done. They felt working with IT was not an option, usually because they had no formal relationship with IT and no means of establishing one.…”

“…However it is unfair, as many authors did, to heap on EAD criticism that actually pertains to the deficiencies of the archival milieu at large. For instance, the subjective difficulty in appropriating EAD was and still is largely due to the lack of training (or interest) from archivists into computer matters (Shaw, 2001;Yaco, 2008;Dow, 2009). Lack of funding for the purchase of computers, software, training sessions, and other such spendings for the implementation of EAD cannot be seriously attributed to EAD itself either: technology always comes at a cost.…”

“…In order to properly exploit annotations in the archival context we have to take into account the heterogeneous environment composed of digital archive systems and annotation systems which are often grounded on different methodological and technological approaches. The archival community has developed "content and data structure standards" [15] to facilitate the description, management and access to the archival resources; however, these standards can be difficult for archivists to use [19] and are often implemented in ways that can negatively affect their description activity [20]. Thus, there has been a proliferation of digital archival systems based on diversified descriptive methodologies and metadata; also from the annotation point-of-view a lot of research has been done that has led to the design and development of variegated annotation systems [4].…”
