iTRAQ based investigation of plasma proteins in HIV infected and HIV/HBV coinfected patients — C9 and KLK are related to HIV/HBV coinfection

Abstract: The present iTRAQ based proteomic analyses identified 7 proteins that are related to HIV/HBV coinfection. HBV might influence hepatic and immune functions by deregulating complement and coagulation pathways. C9 and KLK could potentially be used as targets for the treatment of HIV/HBV coinfections.

“…Some of these pathways were already identified using integrative multiomics analyses (whole genome and transcriptome sequencing) in the context of the identification of prognostic biomarkers in hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma 23 . Other studies investigated HCV or HBV infection and response to therapy using micro RNAs networks 24 , transcriptomics 25 , proteomics 2628 . However, a direct comparison with the present results is difficult due the different study designs and the different clinical settings.…”

“…Viruses that cause chronic infection have also been related to neuroinflammatory states; among them, the acquired immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and the hepatitis B virus (HBV;Aygören-Pürsün et al, 2016;Sun et al, 2017) may have some unexplored relation with KLKs. HIV-infection in the CNS is a significant step of systemic infection that can be detected shortly after primary exposure and initial viremia (Davis et al, 2012).…”
