J/ψ and ψ′ production at the CERN p̄p collider

Abstract: We have measured the production cross-section times branching ratio for J/ψ→μ+μ- in pp̄ interactions at √s=630 GeV in the kinematic range |y| <2.0 and pT> 5 GeV/c, BR(J/ψ→μ+μ -)σ(pp̄→J/ψ)=6.18±0.24±0.81 nb. The data sample collected in 1988 and 1989 for an integrated luminosity of 4.7 pb-1 represents a fivefold improvement over the statistics in our earlier study of the J/ψ production process, and the pT distribution which is measured extends to 28 GeV/c. Using event topology we show that the rate for th… Show more

“…The NRQCD includes color singlet and color octet states, and as mentioned at the beginning of this section, cannot be extrapolated to low p T to obtain the rapidity distribution without the addition of an empirical constraint. Figure 23 shows the the (a) p T and (b) x T = 2p T / √ s dependence of the dielectron differential cross section at midrapidity, compared to other p+p and p +p experiments [9,21,[64][65][66]. The shapes of the transverse momentum distributions in Fig.…”

“…But the value is not unique, since it may change with different choice of the parameters such as M 0 and ξ max in Eq. (18). If we use the central value of D = 0.18 ± 0.04 measured by the CDF Collaboration at the Tevatron, the predicted ratio in the forward region R f wd.…”
