JAVA Phrasebooks for computer algebra and automated deduction

Abstract: We discuss the developments within the OpenMath framework regarding programs that make it possible for a software package to interact with other packages or agents, namely Phrasebooks. Recently, several implementations of Phrasebooks have come about; we shall describe some of them. Most of the software is freely available, so, by downloading it and inspecting implemented examples, builders of software packages can pick up the examples and … Show more

“…We have developed a Java library, called ROML, for building full phrasebooks outside mathematical software packages. It is described in [4] and can be found at [26]. By use of ROML, such external phrasebooks have been implemented for the proof checkers Lego and Coq, for the computer algebra packages Maple, Mathematica and GAP [5,6].…”

“…In the case in which the backengine is OpenMath-aware and able to handle OpenMath directly, the Phrasebook sends the objects along with the queries without further intervention. However, it is also possible to take advantage of software which is not OpenMath-aware by adding a translation layer into the Phrasebook directly [5]. In this last case, the queries sent to the backengines consist of expressions in the back-engine syntax produced by the Phrasebook on the relevant OpenMath fragments.…”

“…Other computer algebra packages include modules able to handle OpenMath directly [3,17]. A possible approach of building the full Phrasebook outside the software package is described in [5]. By use of the Java libraries for OpenMath, such external Phrasebooks have been implemented for the proof checkers Lego and Coq, for the computer algebra packages Maple, Mathematica and Gap [8,6].…”
