“…A fossil fruit from the Upper Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) of Israel was also attributed to Iodes by Soudry and Gregor (1997), as Iodes israelii. However, the position of the vascular bundle has not been confirmed in this specimen, making it difficult to assess whether or not this fossil truly belongs in the genus.…”

“…Though the fossil record of this family has been said to date back to the Late Cretaceous (Chesters 1955;Scott and Barghoorn 1957;Knobloch and Mai 1986;Soudry and Gregor 1997), occurrences of icacinaceous fossils are somewhat sparse until the Early-Middle Eocene, at which point they show an increase in abundance and diversity in Europe and western North America (Pigg et al 2008), apparently coinciding with the expansion of tropical habitats in the Northern Hemisphere during this period (Wolfe 1978(Wolfe , 1980Wing et al 2005). Fossils of this family have been reported from many geographic locations, including Africa (Chesters 1955), Israel (Soudry and Gregor 1997), and Japan (Tanai 1990), but the bulk of the family's fossil record is known from Europe and western North America.…”

“…of Germany (Knobloch and Mai, 1986; Mai, 1987) to 15 mm in Iodes eocenica (Table 2). A notable exception to this small size is I. israelii , which is 29 mm long (Soudry and Gregor, 1997). Size ranges of extant Iodes species vary from 13 to 45 mm long (Sluemer, 1942; Soudry and Gregor, 1997).…”
