Joint effects of CSN3 and LGB genes on milk quality and coagulation properties in Czech Fleckvieh

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The aim of this study was to determine the joint effects of CSN3 and LGB genotypes on parameters of production, quality and coagulation of milk in Czech Fleckvieh cows. Three hundred and twenty-eight Czech Fleckvieh cows were determined for CSN3 (kappa-casein) and LGB (beta-lactoglobulin) genotypes using the PCR-RFLP method, milk quality parameters and coagulation properties. Milk production parameters were obtained from the Official Database of Progeny Testing. Fifteen genotype combinations were dete… Show more

“…The CSN2 gene polymorphism has also been shown to be associated with specific milk performance parameters (Kučerová et al, 2006). The MAS (Marker-Assisted Selection) process can play an important role in increasing the quality of milk/dairy products and in acquiring specific milk properties as indicated by results described by many authors (Hanuš et al, 1995;Michalcová and Krupová, 2007;Hradecká et al, 2008;Matějíček et al, 2008). The challenge for scientists remains the development of new, more powerful and more reliable methods which will give breeders new options.…”

“…However, there is a need for more information regarding the effect of other PRKAG3 polymorphisms on meat quality. Moreover, as genes act in mutual interactions (Szyda et al, 2006;Matějíček et al, 2008) we were interested in a comparison of the impact of two genes proved important for meat quality. Thus the aim of the present study was to associate PRKAG3 genotypes (Q/R-I/V, Q/R-V/V, R/R-I/I, R/R-I/V and R/R-V/V) with meat quality traits and to relate their impact to one of the RYR1 genotypes (N/N or N/n).…”

“…Mainly, the ability to produce milk and its processing qualities are already determined by genotype of the cow (Bayram et al, 2009;Matějíček et al, 2008). Other factors, which are important for the characteristics mentioned above, are stage of lactation and parity (Summer et al, 2003) and feed (Davies and White, 1958).…”
