Abstract:Source coding allows only necessary information to be transmitted by compressing the data while channel coding protects the data from noise and corrects the errors in the affected data at the receiver. Source and channel coding have been designed separately to obtain a reliable transmission without loss in overall performance with delay as stated by Shannon's separation theorem (Shannon,1948).
