Justification for the culverts’ design with joint operation of a water cylinder with a side weir

Abstract: The article is devoted to the actual topic of the substantiation of the culverts’ design with the joint operation of a water cylinder with a lateral flow outlet. In the article, the advantages and disadvantages of gravity and pressure flow are considered. Under catastrophic conditions, structures with a non-pressurized regime are safer since they have a high reserve of carrying capacity, and structures with a pressurized regime have a large carrying capacity. Today, there is a tendency to use energy dissipatio… Show more

“…Collection of sediment in the sump, flushing and discharge of sediment in the downstream are in the structures of water intake hydroelectric complex to prevent abrasion of equipment and pressure pipes of small HPP derivation. The diversion structures of small HPPs ensure the flow of water taken from the Halmeryu River at the water intake facility to the station node [7,8].…”

“…Currently, the problems of using various combined options for damping the energy of a water flow in side water intake structures, solving the issues of developing an experimental model, and applying them in practice to select the most advanced design have not been sufficiently studied. In this regard, there is a need to study and develop hydraulic processes in engineering practice using constructive solutions of various types of energy absorbers in the structure itself, taking into account the fact that in spillway structures, the energy of the water flow is extinguished at short distances, preventing the phenomenon of overturning the water flow [6][7][8][9].…”
